Internal Auditor

Key Accountabilities

• Assist in the audits of FABMISR functions and related activities and its subsidiaries.
• Assist in conducting audits in accordance with the objectives laid down in the Annual Plan and with full respect to CBE regulations, IIA standards and code of ethics, ensuring the work meets the highest standards of quality and is completed efficiently and on or ahead of schedule.
• Inform the Team Head/Head of Audit of any potential delays and/or changes to plan timelines with clear justification.
• Promote knowledge sharing to facilitate achievement of team objectives, and promote the organization's values and ethics in all activities.
• Ensure all assigned tasks are delivered within the budgeted timelines, and assist in identifying gaps within the bank that could lead to stopping revenue leakage or cost optimization.
• Execute to established policies, guidance notes, procedures, practice notes and templates; provide input to the development of audit practices as per industry standards and regulatory expectations.
• Obtain in-depth understanding of the audited units by engaging in audit planning, walkthroughs, and opening meetings; help define and maintain the Audit Universe.
• Assist audit supervisors in preparing and maintaining a risk assessment of each of the process streams within the bank and its subsidiaries.
• Assist in establishing, updating and maintaining audit programs in the central audit management tool.
• Assess whether risks have been identified and classified by line management; whether governance, risk management and control procedures are adequate, effective and efficient; whether improvements are required; whether data and transaction processing meets standards of reliability, integrity and availability; whether assets are safeguarded; and whether resources are used efficiently and effectively.
• Draft audit worksheets and issues in a professional manner, and assist supervisors in discussing and finalizing issues and agreeing a documented Management Action Plan with unit management.
• Ensure the conclusion and assurance of audited processes are fair and based on evidence.
• Assist supervisors in identifying change through continuous improvement of processes and practices, considering global standards and changes in the business environment.
• Work on self-development of technical and soft skills, and contribute to the Internal Audit department's KPIs.
• Maintain effective business relationships with internal and external stakeholders with the highest standards of business ethics, and follow up on pending audit issues until corrective actions are implemented.
• Assist in investigations and special reviews assigned by the Head of Audit/CAO.
• Ensure all functional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet quality standards.

Minimum Qualification

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Relevant post-graduate qualification and/or professional qualification/certification desirable.

Minimum Experience

• 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in the banking sector or Big 4 external audit offices. Internal audit experience strongly preferred (but not mandatory).
• Working knowledge of banking activities and processes and associated risks.
• Working knowledge of bank and audit policies and procedures, as well as Central Bank regulations.
• Self-directed, able to manage multiple tasks and time.
• Good analytical skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Power BI, SQL and data analytics is a privilege.
